Zapad, which translates to "West" in Russian, took place in western Russia and Belarus between Sept. 14 and Sept. 20. NATO's Military Committee Head General Petr Peval had said the exercises looked like "a serious preparation for [a] big war". Russia said 12,700 military personnel were involved, though some western estimates put that number at 100,000. NATO observers were allowed to watch the war games, though some complained their access was restricted. Col. Michael Foster, commander of the U.S. 173rd Airborne Brigade, said the exercises are "an absolutely unique opportunity for us" and "the way we are going to be fighting in the future." Georgia has aspirations of joining NATO and contributed troops to the NATO-led military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. In the field exercise held Sunday on the Vaziani base outside the Georgian capital, troops simulated a mission to drive the enemy from a populated center and an airport. The exercises began May 11 with theoretical training and end on May 24. Sunday was the first day of field exercises. U.S. and Georgian troops simulate a combined attack on a building occupied by the ''enemy'' during joint military exercises in the South Caucasian republic. Huge military exercises are underway off and around Britain’s coast, but NATO insists they are not a deliberate response to the Russian military’s increasingly brazen behavior. The British-led war games are code named Joint Warrior and the numbers are all big: 13,000 personnel from 14 countries operating more than 50 ships and submarines as well as 70 aircraft. NATO says the planning started long before Russia renewed its status as the alliance’s chief adversary. For more than a year NATO has been condemning Russia’s actions in Ukraine as well as its frequent, large scale, snap military drills and those long-range Bear bombers repeatedly flying very close to NATO airspace. So, if Joint Warrior is not a deliberate response, it’s certainly a timely one. CNN was invited to spend a day aboard one of the vessels taking part — the U.S. Navy’s guided missile cruiser USS Vicksburg. It’s the current flag ship of a standing NATO maritime group. Commanding officer Rear Adm. Brad Williamson says Russia’s behavior is an added motivation to do well in these exercises. The latest in a series of provocative military exercises conducted by Baltic nations, Lithuania began a new drill on Wednesday. Modeled directly on the West’s imagined “invasion” of Crimea, the exercise is meant as a show of Vilnius flexing its muscles at Moscow, the Lithuanian president said. russia u.s. troops games "war games" game "united states" usa america "u.s. army" georgia georgian exercise training 2015 2016 military fight fighting national battle tanks land russian "eastern europe" europe european elite money cash paintball "air force" team partner partnership fighting agenda news media entertainment "battle tank" defense "self defense" euro "elite nwo agenda" trendy trends trending video footage alex jones infowars warning exposed jade helm 15 rothschild rothchilds documentary george soros bilderberg 2015 anonymous we are change david icke louis farrakhan daboo77 daboo777 montagraph “We will not allow ourselves to be taken easily,” Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite told Reuters. “We try to learn from the Ukrainian and Crimean situation…We’re not fearing anybody,” she added, referencing the often cited, though never proven, allegation that Crimea’s reunification with Russia was the result of a military takeover. Lightning Strike is the latest escalation by President Grybauskaite, who has steadily been leading the charge in Baltic Russophobia. Having previously called Russia a terrorist state, she has reestablished her country’s military draft, inciting fears about “Russian aggression.” The Lithuanian government has also reportedly begun teaching citizens what to do in the event of war. Media outlets in Iran are reporting that Iran plans to participate in a war game with Russia, China and Syria in the near future and preparations will be carried out in the next few days. ShamLife said that China had gained permission to move twelve ships loaded with military equipment through the Suez Canal. The ships will reach the Syrian ports of Tartus and Latakia within two weeks, the website said. Russian amphibious landing ship, the Caesar Kunikov, departed the Black Sea port of Sevastopol on Tuesday for what a Black Sea Fleet officer explained was a routine exercise. British troops are also engaging in Estonia’s largest military exercise since its independence, which will involve over 7,000 reservists. British officials have stated that the war games are meant to reassure Baltic nations of its commitment to assist in the event of hostile “Russian aggression.”

The military exercise served the purpose of "planning, preparation and conducting combat operations," but many defense analysts interpreted the show of military force to be a direct message to Ukraine and its Western allies regarding Russia’s control over the Crimean peninsula. The exercise was conducted at the Opuk training range on the Black Sea Coast with drills involving warships, aircraft and tanks, with Moscow firing its S-300 and S-400 missile systems. "On such a scale and with the deployment of different force groupings, such drills are being held for the first time," said defense ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov highlighting the unprecedented nature of the massive show of Russian military force. "This training range is the biggest on the Crimean peninsula, which allows for such exercises to be held." The drills were overseen by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and the head of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov as well as Crimean leader Sergei Aksyonov. "Strategic drills are essential to military training in Russia in 2016 with a focus on different troops working together. You should not twist this into anything – there’s no politics," explained Konvashenkov emphasizing that the drills should not be construed as a message to Russia’s neighbors despite the West’s rush to describe it as just that. The war games come one month after President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of sending a group of saboteurs into Crimea to engage in terror strikes against Russian personnel adding to Western suspicions that Moscow wants to make its control over the peninsula clear Read more: https://sputniknews.com/russia/20160911/1045183103/russia-crimea-war-games-military.html

A great video of the US Military putting on a show of force in military exercise. The United States Armed Forces are the military forces of the United States. CAMP CASEY, South Korea – For more than a month, Soldiers from the 210th Field Artillery Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-U.S. Combined Division, trained alongside their joint and combined partners for their debut participation in the Republic of Korea Army’s Integrated Firepower demonstrations Aug. 7-28 near Pocheon, South Korea. The massive capability demonstrations were conducted for public viewing five times throughout the month and included a variety of assets from both the U.S. Army and Air Force. In addition to the tanks, helicopters and jets previously seen in the 2012 event, this year’s lineup showcased the brigade’s Multiple Launch Rocket Systems and Paladin self-propelled howitzers. “This is a unique opportunity for us because it allows us to practice with all elements of the Army alliance here in Korea,” said Maj. Elijah Ward, operations officer for 6th Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, whose battalion specializes in the MLRS platform. “This is an exercise where we can see what other units get to do, and we get to see how they all fit in the big picture.” Due to its unparalleled lethality, versatility and range, the U.S. Army has used the MLRS for nearly 27 years. The 210th Field Artillery Brigade maximizes its lethality with three dedicated MRLS battalions, all of which participated in the event. Success of the MLRS platform, in addition to working alongside their U.S. counterparts, has allowed the ROK Army to find the strategic value in the weapon’s utility and decided to use them for fire and counterfire operations within its own formations. “The MLRS is currently one of the strongest field artillery weaponry system,” said Lt. Col. Tae-Hun Kim, the battalion commander of 5000th Battalion, 5th Field Artillery Brigade, 6th Division. “It is a vital part of the defense of the Korean Peninsula.” “Even though it is our first time being in a part of the demonstration, but it is an honor to show our strength and procedures to the citizens of Republic of Korea,” added Kim. “Furthermore, participating this event with our sibling units made this exercise much more meaningful.” During the demonstrations, three launchers from each country’s Army shared tactical positions and targets. The ROK command post then received "call for fire" signal, which is then transferred to six MLRS crews simultaneously to fire at the same time, said Ward. Having successfully completed such an alliance-strengthening event with the ROK Army and spending every day for five weeks in the same compound with their ROK allies, the brigade’s crew members were able to establish a positive rapport and trust among their counterparts. In addition to reinforcing the mission essential skills of each Soldier, the brigade’s Soldiers educated themselves on the culture of the respective armies: How they think, operate and execute their missions. “There is something different when the Soldiers work and live next to each other,” said Ward. “It is this partnership that makes us strong. This exercise allows us to see that, we are partners in alliance.” In addition to firing the first U.S. rockets from the ROK range, troops also encountered a few more firsts, including the integration of live-fire exercises with multiple types of units among combined and joint partners. “In an artillery brigade, you only get to see artillery units,” said Ward. “We have learned a lot about how we use MLRS when we have troops maneuvering in proximal range and we have airplanes up in the sky.” Through maintaining and developing positive relationship between both field artillery units and their combined-joint partners, the alliance will be able to summon coordinated artillery fire power at any time of need. “I think the biggest thing here is establishing the relationship between ROK 5000th Battalion, and other maneuver units out here with our assets,” said Capt. Jason Yu, commander of Battery A, 6th Battalion, 37th FA Regiment, 210th FA Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division. “Seeing how it would look like in a coordinated scheme of maneuver. Learning about each other’s capabilities and movements out in the battlefield is the key component we learned so far.” “This exercise really demonstrates our capabilities in case of provocations from the north,” added Yu, a Chappaqua, New York, native. “It really shows the great firepower we have in defense of South Korea and how we operate together in the real environment.” Video Description Credit: Pfc. Nearly 100 U.S. and Philippine troops took part in a mock assault on a small island in energy-rich waters disputed with China on Wednesday (April 25), a drill Beijing had said would raise the risk of armed conflict. The exercises, part of annual U.S.-Philippine war games exercises on the western island of Palawan, coincide with another stand-off between Chinese and Philippine vessels near Scarborough Shoal in a different part of the South China Sea. China has territorial disputes with the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia and Taiwan across the South China Sea, each searching for gas and oil while building up their navies and military alliances. China said last week the drill would raise the risk of confrontation. Officers who participated in the exercises said the drill with U.S. troops was aimed at improving relations between the two countries. "We learned teamwork, established our friendship, enhanced our inter-operability, with our allies, the U.S. Marines," said Second Lieutenant Ferdinand Medina, Philippine Marines team leader in the assault drill. The Philippine troops' exercise director for naval forces events, said such a drill was routine. "This exercise is actually not in any way related to the incident that happened in Scarborough Shoal. It's a normal activity, conducted during Balikatan (Shoulder-to-Shoulder) Exercises, the aim of which is to enhance the inter-operability of both forces - the American forces and the Philippine forces," said Philippines Navy Captain Reynaldo Yoma. The U.S. Marines also denied that the exercises were a response to the recent stand-off. "Location (of the drill) is irrelevant. These exercises take place on a regular basis. This year it happens to be in Palawan. Speaking to my counterpart, here at the Marine Corps side, the planning for this took place months and months and months ago, prior to any events that are currently in the headlines," Ensign Bryan Mitchell, spokesman for the U.S. Marines, told reporters. The Spratlys are claimed entirely by China, Taiwan and Vietnam and in part by Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines. China, which claims the South China Sea based on historical records, has sought to resolve disputes bilaterally but its neighbours worry over what some see as growing Chinese assertiveness in its claims in the region.

Russia's biggest war games in years didn't result in the "big invasion" a top NATO official had warned about, but there's still suspicion in the West that the Zapad 2017 exercises involved many more troops than Moscow let on. VICE News visited Zapad and found the Russian military was touchy about what we could see and where we could go. The exercises were hit by bad weather and occasional military mis-steps, with an attack helicopter accidentally firing on a group of men, injuring three. Russian president Vladimir Putin watched parts of Zapad, which involved a scenario where a fictitious region of Belarus tried to break away with help from NATO. Russia has been modernizing is military for the past decade, at a time when trust with its western neighbors is at its lowest point since the Cold War. Sweden is currently holding its biggest military exercises in 20 years, involving 19,000 troops, with support from other NATO countries. Philippine and United States Marines simulated close combat and ambushes during their annual war games in Cavite Province on Thursday (April 19), a move to strengthen military capabilities between the two nations. The 10-day "Balikatan", which means "shoulder to shoulder" in Tagalog, started on Monday (April 16) and will be held across several parts the country. United States Marines Staff Sergeant Jared Leonard said the war games exercises aim to help U.S. and Philippine forces learn from each other. "Basically this is just a learning experience for all of us, and all I am expecting from them is to get something out of this training, and to come away from it with more knowledge than we have before, with a different perspective, seeing how the Philippine Marines react and maybe we can put that in our pocket books and build on that also," he said. Although the exercises come amid the Philippines' ongoing tensions with China in the South China Sea territorial dispute, soldiers said the war games have nothing to do with the dispute with Beijing. "This Balikatan 2012 exercise is not related to the conflict situation on the Spratly Islands. This is an annual activity where we invite the U.S. troops to participate in our exercises," said Philippine Marines Second Lieutenant Marlon Bitoon. Relations between China and the Philippines have been at gridlock for the past two weeks over claims on a disputed shoal in the South China Sea. Talks have been ongoing between Manila and Washington since January for more military equipment upgrades and joint exercises to enhance the country's territorial security in exchange for wider access to the Philippine bases.

Sweden is undertaking its biggest military exercise in more than 20 years with support from NATO countries. It comes as Russian forces begin their largest military maneouvres since 2013, assembling troops, military aircraft and combat helicopters in Belarus in an exercise called “Zapad” meaning “West”. Sweden is not a member of NATO but the exercise, called “Aurora”, involves 19,000 troops and will simulate an attack from the east on the Baltic island of Gotland, near the Swedish mainland. Around 1,500 of the military personnel are from the United States, France, Norway and other NATO allies. NATO generals say Aurora is not a response to the Russian exercises but there are concerns at Russia’s growing military strength after extensive defence cuts by Sweden in recent years. Following Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the fighting in Ukraine, NATO has increased its military presence in the three Baltic states.
